Priority Project

Our Campaign for 2020

The Rural Schools Collaborative (RSC) board of directors approved an action plan for 2016-17 that included moving forward with a modest three-year capitalization campaign to further bolster the development of our new organization, which was launched in 2015. We were honored to have so many individuals and organizations support the RSC's launch, and we are already heartened by the response to our capitalization effort.

This is a board-driven project, and 100% of our board members and their respective organizations have already donated or pledged to support the campaign over the next three years. RSC is committed to being as lean as possible, and we see our role as being that of a catalyst, facilitator and storyteller. In other words, we would rather help regional efforts garner large investments than spend time, energy and resources on building out a large "national" staff that will require an inordinate amount of fundraising.

Our board has approved an annual budget of $125,000 for the next three years. This will allow us to do the following:

  • Institutionalize the position of director
  • Hire a person dedicated to communications and public engagement
  • Explore providing internship opportunities to young rural advocates
  • Build out a network of operational hubs, that will serve as cost-effective partners in specific regions
  • Strengthen our Grants in Place program
  • Enhance our efforts to coordinate a rural teacher corps conversation
  • Support rural philanthropy efforts in regions where fund raising is akin to "pushing rope"

As of May 1, 2017 we have received donations and commitments of more than $300,000, but we still have a ways to go. Your donation, large or small, will be greatly appreciated and help illustrate the power of grassroots philanthropy.
