Cabool Middle School Students Create Community Newsletter

April 18, 2016

Last fall we recognized ReBena Sigman, Cabool, Missouri 7th grade communications arts teacher for receiving a Grants in Places award. ReBena and her students were awarded $864 to establish and publish a quarterly newsletter for the school community of Cabool. Sigman explained the purpose of the project:

“Our community members do not often know about the wonderful things happening in our classrooms. I want to address this issue by having my seventh graders cooperatively write, print, and distribute a newsletter to send home each quarter to parents of students in our school and our current school board members.”

Sigman noted that the students would create the newsletters on Chrome books. The grant dollars enabled the Middle School to purchase four Chrome books and a charging station."Seventh graders at Cabool Middle School have really taken on our newsletter task with great enthusiasm. Students are able to choose what to write about and it really gives them a feeling of ownership in our district. From the teaching aspect it gives me a great opportunity to differentiate instruction. All students are working on different parts of the project and I believe it has really come together to be a cohesive final product."

Recently, ReBena provided us with an update on how the project has progressed. "Seventh graders at Cabool Middle School have really taken on our newsletter task with great enthusiasm. We truly appreciate ReBena and her students following through on their effort. Below is the front page from the fall newsletter:
