In 2018 students on the Envirothon team at Glen Lake High School decided to start fundraising to build a solar array at the school. After receiving funding from the school district and grants from the community, they found themselves $10,000 short of their goal. The team decided to take their appeal online and became the first organization to use the Groundwork Center’s SolaRISE crowdfunding platform. The platform, designed to help non-profit organizations raise money for renewable energy project, proved to be key to raising the final $10,000. The solar panels were installed summer 2019.
