Last year, Junior Elementary Schools received a $5,000 grant from the West Virginia Department of Education for the Sustainable School Awards. The funding was used to purchase a set of mountain bikes for the school. Half of the school has little-to-no cycling experience, so the mountain bikes are incorporated into the gym class curriculum. The program aims to get students active and reconnect with the surrounding landscape.
