STAR (Service to All Relations) School

Adjacent to Navajo Nation

The STAR School is the first off-grid public charter school in the United States, northeast of Flagstaff, Arizona and adjacent to Navajo Nation. With a desire to serve Navajo students, the school was forced to create off-grid systems due to the lack of utilities in the area. Through a combination of wind and solar energy, sustainable design and green building materials, and eco-friendly water systems, the STAR School is place-based education with a holistic idea of service – to the land, the natural environment, to Navajo culture, and to people.
