The Rural Schools Collaborative is seeking applicants for a new position, a Digital Communications Coordinator (DCC). This will be a one-year appointment minimally with a base salary of $35,000 and some benefits, which are negotiable. The anticipated start date will be no later than September 30, 2019.

The Rural Schools Collaborative (RSC) is a relatively new national nonprofit committed to strengthening the bonds between rural schools and communities through place-based engagement, developing teacher-leaders, and rural philanthropy. RSC is comprised of nine regional Hubs and has small operational offices in western Illinois and southern Wisconsin. RSC has a strong emphasis on the sustainability of place, communities, and our environment.

The DCC will work with Rural Schools Collaborative staff, board members, and constituents to enhance the internal and external communications of the organization, which includes the possibility of working on a major national social marketing campaign that will give voice to rural teachers from diverse regions.

Specifically, the DCC will be responsible for managing all online aspects of the organization: website, social media, digital outreach, etc. The DCC will report to the Director.

This position will be based out of an RSC office in southern Wisconsin or western Illinois. There will be some travel with the position, which will be fully funded by RSC. There may be some opportunities for virtual work.

We anticipate that candidates will have the following:

Degree Level: A Bachelor’s degree

Degree Fields: Communications, journalism, environmental sustainability, education, nonprofit services, or another related field

Experience: 0-3 years, with at least some level of internships or formal volunteer service

Key Skills: Website management, photography, video production, and a sense of design; extensive knowledge of social media platforms; strong writing, time-management, task-oriented, self-motivated, and prioritization; willingness to travel with some time flexibility; creativity and an enjoyment of working with and meeting people; teamwork!

Letters of application and a resume should be sent to Gary Funk, RSC director, at gfunk@ruralschoolscollaborative.org . An applicant should be prepared to provide a portfolio of work and references upon request.

RSC will accept applications immediately and continue until the position is filled.
