We are asking how COVID-19 is impacting rural communities. Read below for a perspective from Superintendent Brian Rottinhaus of Pawnee City, NE, about how their school system continued supporting students and their families through summer. You can share yours here: http://bit.ly/iaartcovid
Here are photos of our kitchen and support staff putting together grab & go meals on May 17th for students to bring home, which was our last day that students were in attendance. I decided mid-morning that day to close school a day earlier than I originally announced. Since then, our kitchen and support staff have been preparing grab-and-go meals for families though the SFSP grant program. Every week, we serve the equivalent of 6 days' worth of grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches for approximately 200 students. Those are prepared for pickup on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the school in Pawnee City. We also deliver meals on those days to the four satellite communities that our school serves: Burchard, DuBois, Steinauer, and Table Rock.
