My name is Eve, I am an NQT working in a school in South Wales. Prior to being a teacher, my passion was health and fitness, and I had a variety of jobs which included working abroad. After my travels, I spent a year as a teaching assistant and fell in love with educating children. I then qualified as a teacher in 2020, with a first-class honours degree in Primary Studies at the University of South Wales.

I am very early on in my career but have learned so much over the past few years. I work in a rural school called Edwardsville Primary. It is a 3-form entry school with 339 children on roll and 2 LRB units on site. The Learning Resource Base teachers work closely with staff to nurture pupils with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Our goal is to ensure that Edwardsville Primary School will be a ‘School of Excellence’ where all children feel happy, safe, stimulated and valued. Our school motto is ‘Explore, Excite, Excel’ and as a new teacher I do my best to deliver creative lessons, and provide opportunities to educate and fulfil this vision. I have experience of both the Foundation phase and KS2, however currently teach a mixed year 3/4 class of 24 children. The children are between the ages of 7-9 years old.

Regardless of school closures, the children have been resilient, patient and made a real effort to continue with schoolwork online. I currently share the responsibility of Welsh lead with another member of staff. I am enjoying the additional responsibility and providing extracurricular opportunities for pupils throughout KS2. I have recently set up a Criw Cymraeg, where I regularly meet with the children to involve them in our decision-making process as we look to improve the Welsh language throughout the school. In our school we believe pupil voice is important. My NQT year has been very enjoyable! I am grateful to have learned so much whilst being part of a team that is committed to giving the children the best possible start in life. I look forward to forging connections with the US and the learning opportunities it will bring. I have included the link to my school website below:
