To be a rural teacher in my eyes, is to be able to rise to any occasion and face whatever obstacles that may come in my way to be the most effective and adaptive teacher I possibly can in rural areas. There are so many assets in rural areas that are valuable to education, and I believe it is my job as an educator to put these assets and resources into valuable use in the classrooms.

Children inspired me to be a teacher. They are innocent beings in this chaotic world, and I have always been passionate about helping them in any way that I possibly can. By being a teacher, I can hope to touch the lives of many and hopefully make a true difference.

Growing up in Galesburg, Illinois, the sense of community in the schools I have attended have had a lasting positive impact on me. It allowed me to love education and the process of learning, which has also inspired me to be a teacher.

Attending Monmouth College has been one of the best decisions I have made. The faculty and staff here have been beyond amazing in helping me become the person I am today. I have learned so much not only about content, but also lifelong lessons that I will hold dear to my heart. This college has provided me with opportunities that I am so grateful to have, and I would not have chosen a better place to chase my dreams.

It means so much to be a part of the TARTANS because we are working toward doing wonderful things for rural communities and schools, and I feel honored to be able to share my thoughts and ideas with this amazing group. It is a great feeling to know that I can contribute to making such profound changes in rural schools.

I feel that Monmouth could offer a good place-based education. This area is rich in the sense of community, and that is such a valuable life lesson for everyone to learn and be a part of. Monmouth has tons of farmland that would be beneficial in the teaching of agriculture and sustainability, as well as countryside surrounding it. I also believe that because of the factories that reside in Monmouth, learning about the way that they operate and benefit this town could really add some value into economic education.
