My name is Mariah, and I am a 6th grade ELA and Social Studies teacher with the EL cohort for my grade level. I teach in Monmouth, IL at the intermediate school, which is a 4th-6th grade building. I also attended college in Monmouth, at Monmouth College, where I began my journey with place based education and the Rural Schools Collaborative. In my undergrad I was a part of a group called TARTANS (Teachers Allied with Rural Towns and Neighborhood Schools), where I studied place based education and worked on different projects. This upcoming school year will be my second year teaching, and I am also working on getting my masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction with concentrations on English Language Learners and Learning Behavior Specialist. In my free time, I enjoy reading, painting, playing with my dogs, and traveling! I’ve been to 4 different countries (& 3 more just for layovers in airports). I am really looking forward to working on the Reciprocity Project, and bringing these new opportunities to my students!
