Established in 1853 by Scotch-Irish Presbyterian pioneers, Monmouth is a nationally ranked residential college. Monmouth is a member of the prestigious Associated Colleges of the Midwest.

The Monmouth College Educational Studies department sponsors the TARTANS rural teacher corps, hosts a place-based learning center in partnership with Teton Science Schools, and stewards the local Place Network school, Central Intermediate. Monmouth College and the Galesburg Community Foundation partner to provide a national office for the Rural Schools Collaborative.
