The National Rural Education Association and the Rural Schools Collaborative are accepting applications for the National Signature Project Award, a $3,000 grant to an outstanding and innovative classroom project that exemplifies the very best in place-based education. The National Signature Project Award is open to any rural classroom teacher in the United States. The application deadline is April 15, 2019.
Thank you to the National Rural Education Association for co-sponsoring this program. NREA is the nation's oldest rural education organization, and we are honored to partner with them in this effort. Last year was the inaugural National Signature Project Award, and Andrea Wood, an English teacher at Wyoming's Moorcroft High School, received $2,500 in support of her Digital Stories of Rural Wyoming project. We invite you to learn more about Andrea's winning application; we will be highlighting the work of her students this spring.
PLEASE note that the National Signature Project Award recipient will be invited to make a presentation about their project at the 2019 Forum to Advance Rural Education & 111th NREA Convention and Research Symposium, which will be held in Louisville, Kentucky on October 24-26, 2019. There are more details on this expectation in the application guidelines, something potential applicants need to read carefully.
The National Signature Project Award program is part of the Rural Schools Collaborative Grants in Place program, a multi-organizational effort that has awarded more than $400,000 to teachers in support of place-based learning since 2015. Typically, we have announced the general Grants in Place program in the early spring. However, the RSC board of directors and staff are currently re-designing the Grants in Place program. Look for an announcement on a next year's Grants in Place coming later this summer.
