Foreign language class goes online - to Spain and Peru too

September 9, 2020 |

We are asking how COVID-19 is impacting rural communities. Read below for a perspective from Superintendent Jane Davis of Hershey, NE. You can share yours here: http://bit.ly/iaartcovid

Hershey and Brady Public Schools' foreign language teachers are connecting multiple schools online to play a game together to reinforce high frequency words. They have created a date and time and then sent out the Gimkit code to the teachers, who then send it to all students on their email just before the game starts. This is the third week that they have been playing online with students. The first time they played, they had 84 students playing from area schools in Nebraska. A teacher in Spain is also connecting with Nebraska students so that they can practice the same words but focus on the English translations. Numerous kids emailed Mrs. DaMoude after the first time to request repeated online meetings! The next time both teachers play they are going to invite a school in Lima, Peru, to play that they have a connection with! This is all in addition to their regular online instruction!

Note: the two teachers are a mother-daughter combination.
