Each year, Aiken elementary works on six projects that focus on conserving, protecting, and restoring their local environment. The projects involve the collaboration of community partners and mentors to connect the students to their community. Each grade at Aiken elementary is responsible for a garden plot to tend throughout the spring and the campus includes an outdoor gardening classroom. Students also participated in a variety of other sustainability projects throughout the year, including creating upcycled art, on-site learning about the various methods of composting, and decorating rain barrels.
