Last week, members of the RSC staff and board had the opportunity to attend the Transcend Rural Partners Meeting in Austin, Texas. RSC Board President Nate McClennen, Board Member and Alabama & Black Belt Regional Hub Lead Jan Miller, and Program Manager Henry Whitehead all attended; RSC Board Member Melissa Harris, a Rural Ecosystems Partner at Transcend, helped host the Rural Partners Meeting. The meeting was filled with engaging sessions, exploring the trends that shape rural education and identifying pathways to better support 21st century equitable education.

The gathering was a part of the Transcend Rural School Design Community’s in-person convening, where leaders from nine rural schools congregated to share and refine ideas as they undergo a school redesign process. With support from Transcend, schools engage in a community-driven process to distill their aspirations and give structure to a more equitable and educational school environment. School leaders shared their progress, exchanged concepts, gave feedback, and offered inspiration to the RSC team and the other Rural Partners in attendance.

RSC Board Chair, Nate McClennen, shares about the Rural Partners meeting at the Transcend Rural School Design Community Gathering.

Thanks to Melissa and the Transcend Team for having RSC as part of this conversation, and to the collaborating partners across the country for the fruitful connections!
